Airbnb Insurance

Am I Covered?

If you are currently a homeowner with a homeowner’s insurance policy who read all the exclusions, you will know that short-term rentals are not covered by your policy.

Airbnb has their own insurance policy called Host Guarantee which covers your tenant. It does not cover your property. Any damages arising from your temporary tenants to your property is excluded and will void your insurance policy.

Insurance companies are now coming out with ways to fill in the gap. Some of the coverages included in the new “home-sharing coverage” include:

– Liability arising out of the short-term rental
– Loss or damage to buildings and personal property
– Criminal acts, intentional acts or failure to act
– Loss or damage to a guest’s property (up to $1500)
– Loss of rental income

Not all insurance companies accept short term rentals and for that reason, it is best to speak to an insurance broker.
